Dr. Scheldeman speaks at the 10th Flemish Epilepsy Day
On 14 March 2026, the 10th Flemish Epilepsy Day will take place at the Provinciehuis in Leuven. This annual event is organised by the Epilepsy League in collaboration with IKAROS vzw, and this year’s edition focuses entirely on the theme “Epilepsy affects all ages.”
The Epilepsy Day brings together people with epilepsy, their families, caregivers and healthcare professionals in a warm and accessible setting. Visitors have the opportunity to exchange information, share experiences and attend a series of plenary lectures, workshops and interactive information sessions. During the breaks, participants can also visit various information stands. Children are very welcome as well; the theatre company Kip van Troje provides creative and inclusive activities for them in separate rooms close to their parents.
We are especially proud that Dr. Lauranne Scheldeman from UZ Leuven will be giving a lecture at this year’s edition. She will speak during Session 2, where she will explore the topic “Epilepsy and comorbidities in adults.” This is a subject of great relevance to many families, adolescents and adults.
The programme of the day begins at 9:30 a.m. with registration, followed by plenary sessions explaining the latest developments in epilepsy treatments. In the afternoon, participants can choose between several parallel sessions, including talks on diagnosing epilepsy, comorbidities in adults, seizure detection, epilepsy later in life and the transition from child to young adult care. Throughout the day, there are separate children’s activities, and visitors can explore a variety of information stands and enjoy a sandwich lunch.
Epilepsy Day is designed for everyone affected by epilepsy—people living with the condition, their network and healthcare professionals—and offers a warm, informative and connecting experience for all ages.
