Our Center Turned Purple for International Epilepsy Day
On 9 February 2026 our center turned purple in support of International Epilepsy Day, joining many others around the world. Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to welcome children and adults living with epilepsy, their families, individuals seeking a deeper understanding of the condition, and hospital colleagues eager to broaden their knowledge.
These encounters underscored the crucial importance of raising awareness.
Every story shared contributes to dispelling misconceptions and strengthens our collective commitment to improving understanding, care, and support for all those affected by epilepsy.
In the afternoon, we hosted an informative sessions featuring three expert presentations:
Prof. Dr. Lieven Lagae – Cognitive issues in childhood epilepsy
Prof. Dr. Daniëlle Copmans, Sophie Janssens & Dr. Dorien Imberechts – Established and emerging neuroscience models, from iPSC technology to patient‑specific animal models
Dr. Lauranne Scheldeman – Insights from Stereo‑EEG and what lies beneath the surface
The day concluded with a joint team‑building activity together with the team of the Leuven Children’s Epilepsy Center, providing a collegial and reflective end to this meaningful event.
We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed—whether by organizing, participating, asking questions, or simply attending. Together, we continue to advance awareness and understanding of epilepsy
