EEG

During an electro-encephalogram (EEG) we place electrodes (measuring points) on the child's head to measure brain activity. This way we can see if there is epileptic activity in the brain. The child will stay in the hospital for +/- 24 hours. As a parent you will sleep with your child and will always be near them.

A 24-hour EEG is performed in specially equipped hospital rooms, where the necessary equipment is available: an EEG device, video cameras, lights, ...

Nurses first apply the electrodes to the head with an adhesive gel. We bundle all the wires of the electrodes in a backpack so that the child can walk around freely. In the meantime, we also film what is happening in the room, so that we can better understand the abnormal brain activity later. All this information ends up in the EEG lab, further down the hall. Throughout the day, specialized employees of our center are always present here to interpret all the data. At night, the EEGs are monitored by the nurses of the department, the interpretation takes place the next day.

The child may not leave the room during the examination. After the examination, the child may simply go home.
