The Epilepsy Nurse: Your Go-To Support
After an epilepsy diagnosis, there’s a lot to take in. Our epilepsy nurse is here to guide you and your child every step of the way. You can turn to them for clear explanations about epilepsy, practical tips on handling seizures, information about medication, and what to do during an episode.
The epilepsy nurse works closely with the pediatric neurologist, (neuro)psychologist, speech therapist, dietitian, and social services team to ensure comprehensive care.
They can also support your child’s environment—such as school or daycare—by providing information about epilepsy and creating a seizure action plan so everyone knows what to do if a seizure occurs.
Has your doctor mentioned a vagus nerve stimulator (VNS)? The epilepsy nurse will explain what it is, prepare you for the procedure, and guide you afterward with the settings and follow-up care.
