Sports are healthy – even for children with epilepsy! Physical activity not only benefits the body but also supports mental well-being and social development. Joining a team sport can boost confidence, encourage social interaction, and promote overall health.
The risk of having a seizure during sports is generally low. In fact, physical activity often has a suppressive effect on seizures. For some people, seizures may occur shortly after exercise, during the transition from exertion to relaxation.
There are many sports that children with epilepsy can safely enjoy. In some cases, extra precautions are needed, depending on the type of sport and the risks if a seizure occurs. Always discuss this with your doctor to determine what is safe for your child, based on their type of epilepsy and seizure control.
